We are hiring for the following:

Position: Physician

Schedule: 4 Hours per week Direct Care; Additional time Collaborating with APRN

Location: Georgetown County Detention Center, Georgetown, SC

Pay Rate: $125 per hour; Independent Contractor

  • You will have autonomy to refer individuals to see a specialist as needed.

  • We have comprehensive practical Nursing Guidelines that the nurses use when screening individual patients before they are to be seen by you.

  • The detention center is staffed by licensed healthcare professionals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • All the behavioral and mental health patients are diagnosed and managed by our Licensed Mental Health clinicians and our Psychiatrist.

  • The medical department of the detention center already has protocols and guidelines for management of individuals who arrive to the jail who might be going through withdrawal from alcohol, opioids, and benzodiazepines and other illicit substances.

  • We have a very user-friendly EMR system and a dedicated in-house support team to help train and troubleshoot any issues as needed.

  • No insurance hassles--such as Prior Authorizations, Denials, Appeals, or Collections.

  • The medical department and any other areas that you may end up to see patients is staffed by security personnel 24/7.

  • The majority of the new arrivals to the detention center will be released or bonded out within the first week.

  • MEDIKO will provide you with training and orientation into correctional medicine by physicians and personnel that have decades of experience in this field.

Responsibilities:

  • Abide by MEDIKO protocols, policies, procedures, and regulations of assigned correctional facility

  • Provide required documentation of services to the Corporate Medical Director in order to monitor services provided and compliance with facility/client contract

  • Notify Corporate Medical Director and Health Services Administrator (HSA) of schedule coverages and schedule changes

  • Assist in arrangements of coverage of medical services if unavailable for extended period of time

  • Report to assigned facility at designated hour to examine referred patients

  • Review and countersign therapeutic orders and corresponding progress notes of inmates seen by the PA/ARNP, if applicable, ensuring orders/notes are appropriate and effective

  • Ensure progress note documentation in Electronic Medical Record (EMR), or on approved paper form in SOAP format, problem-oriented, corresponds to the therapeutic order, and is legible if handwritten

  • Ensure all documentation is dated, timed, problem-oriented and encounters are located in EMR with documents or legible and signed if handwritten

  • Adhere to the established formulary for therapeutic regimens before utilizing non-formulary procedures

  • Utilize available in-house resource personnel for treatment or resolution of identified problems before using off-site referral, if possible

  • Provide emergency treatment on-site and respond appropriately in urgent or emergency situations

  • Demonstrate proper technique for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and related drug therapy

  • Support standards of correctional medical care through adherence to existing policies and procedures for: admission to the infirmary, transfer to emergency room, and utilization review process for specialty consultant referrals

  • Supervise care given by other professional or non-professional personnel, providing instructions as needed

  • Report any doubts or questions regarding the lack of appropriate referrals, nursing or medical intervention necessary for the realization of established patient goals to the Corporate Medical Director for disposition

  • Provide clinical oversight to the facility medical program as defined by the ACA standards

  • Consult with medical specialists for advice and expertise in their respective areas

  • Provide consultation for all professionals in the system

  • Partner with Health Services Administrator (HSA) in supervising continuous quality improvement program including patient grievances, sanitation, infection control, utilization management, pharmacy and therapeutics, and assists in development of criteria

  • Serve as member of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) committee; make recommendations to improve patient outcomes

  • Review and approve treatment protocols, clinical policies and procedures, to include infection control and infirmary (if applicable at site), and fire and disaster plans at least annually or on as needed basis

  • Serve as liaison with health care providers in the community

  • Review all death and inmate grievances and appeals

  • Work with the Health Services administrator (HSA) to establish and maintain chronic care clinics that assure compliance with ACA and NCCHC standards

  • Assist the HSA in monitoring pharmacy to include: formulary compliance, prescribing patterns and dispensing of medications, participation with P&T committee

  • Ensure respect, dignity and confidentiality of patients

  • Independent medical judgement with regards to patient diagnosis and treatment shall be unrestricted

  • Provide on-call services as assigned by the facility and/or company needs

Qualifications

  • Must have and maintain current state licensure

  • Must maintain a current DEA registration

  • Board certified or is qualified by the state law and regulation to practice medicine

  • Experience in Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine or Public Health preferred

  • Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved)
