The Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Full-Time Physician for Radiion Oncology within Diagnostic Imaging Service. The Radiion Oncology Section in Diagnostic Imaging Service is a part of a large, complex, VA Medical Center with consults and referrals from VISN Medical Centers and outpient clinics.

This position is eligible for the Educion Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP applicion within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Educion Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP applicion. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Duties include, but are not limited to:
Works with and is supported by Radiion Oncology Service leadership. Provides direct clinical and administrive oversight for mid-level practitioners, physics, dosimetry, radiion therapists and other clinical staff as assigned. Responsible for providing services in an efficient, high-quality, cost effective manner within budget allocion.
Works directly with Chief, Radiion Oncology Service to assist in ensuring adeque and approprie staffing. Participes in recruitment, hiring, evaluion and disciplinary actions for staff.
Works with the Chief, Radiion Oncology Service, and other staff as approprie, supports operions issues/problems resolution in a logical, stepwise fashion. Participes in a forum in which staff identifies, communices, and resolves issues reled to Radiion Oncology Service, Medical Center ancillary and support operions, and VISN-wide mandes.
Works with the Chief, Radiion Oncology Service, and other disciplines as necessary to support, contribute to and implement policies, procedures, performance goals, stregic plans, and initiives.
Seeks and enhances opportunities to promote and strengthen the Medical Center's and VISN goals. Responsible for implementing the goal of improving care for pients within the Medical Center and VISN.
Contributes to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of relions with internal and external entities including but not limited to medical and nursing schools, therapist training programs, local public and prive health care entities, colleagues in other Pient Services and Integred Services such as Informion Technology, Laborory, and Business Office, labor, and VISN.
Participes in Radiion Oncology Service stregic planning.
Participes in local administrive, management, quality assurance, and other assignments, meetings, or committees.
Provides direct pient care as a consultant in outpient clinics and/or inpient wards and will participe in the Radiion Oncology Service on call schedule.
Participes in regular peer review activities.
Must be alert to pient's condition and disorders. Reactions on the part of the pient require immedie tention so harm does not come to the pient.
Maintains pient records and files. Follows HIPPA guidelines regarding pient informion.
Ensures timely completion of daily clinic notes with accure documention and coding of service rendered.
Practices radiion safety to reduce exposure to pients, staff, and self, in compliance with department and VA radiion safety procedures to maintain occupional exposures "as low as reasonably achievable" (ALARA).
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Subject to Change based on Agency Needs.

Qualificions
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualificion standard the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupion.
Basic Requirements :
United Stes Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of educion in medicine or osteophic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a Ste, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United Stes, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certificion. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty stus.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accredition Council for Gradue Medical Educion (ACGME), b) OR[(2) Those approved by the American Osteophic Associion (AOA),OR(3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United Stes), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with approprie professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an approprie range of pient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rher, they are to have a "scope of practice" th allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs
English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct pient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
Preferred Experience: Must be a Board Certified or Board Eligible Radiion Oncologist.

Educion
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of educion in allophic medicine or osteophic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accredition was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Educion (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
Schools of osteophic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteophic College Accredition of the American Osteophic Associion for the year in which the degree was granted.
For foreign medical gradues not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educional Commission for Foreign Medical Gradues (ECFMG) th the applicant has met requirements for certificion, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certifice, if claimed by the applicant. [If the applicant does not claim an ECFMG certifice, facility officials must still confirm th the medical school meets (or met) ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year the candide gradued.]
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician gradue of a school of medicine not covered above if the candide is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrive position with no pient care responsibilities. The appointment made only in exceptional circumstances where the candide's credentials clearly demonstre high professional tainment or expertise in the specialty area.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
Works with and is supported by Radiion Oncology Service leadership. Provides direct clinical and administrive oversight for mid-level practitioners, physics, dosimetry, radiion therapists and other clinical staff as assigned. Responsible for providing services in an efficient, high-quality, cost effective manner within budget allocion.
Works directly with Chief, Radiion Oncology Service to assist in ensuring adeque and approprie staffing. Participes in recruitment, hiring, evaluion and disciplinary actions for staff.
Works with the Chief, Radiion Oncology Service, and other staff as approprie, supports operions issues/problems resolution in a logical, stepwise fashion. Participes in a forum in which staff identifies, communices, and resolves issues reled to Radiion Oncology Service, Medical Center ancillary and support operions, and VISN-wide mandes.
Works with the Chief, Radiion Oncology Service, and other disciplines as necessary to support, contribute to and implement policies, procedures, performance goals, stregic plans, and initiives.
Seeks and enhances opportunities to promote and strengthen the Medical Center's and VISN goals. Responsible for implementing the goal of improving care for pients within the Medical Center and VISN.
Contributes to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of relions with internal and external entities including but not limited to medical and nursing schools, therapist training programs, local public and prive health care entities, colleagues in other Pient Services and Integred Services such as Informion Technology, Laborory, and Business Office, labor, and VISN.
Participes in Radiion Oncology Service stregic planning.
Participes in local administrive, management, quality assurance, and other assignments, meetings, or committees.
Provides direct pient care as a consultant in outpient clinics and/or inpient wards and will participe in the Radiion Oncology Service on call schedule.
Participes in regular peer review activities.
Must be alert to pient's condition and disorders. Reactions on the part of the pient require immedie tention so harm does not come to the pient.
Maintains pient records and files. Follows HIPPA guidelines regarding pient informion.
Ensures timely completion of daily clinic notes with accure documention and coding of service rendered.
Practices radiion safety to reduce exposure to pients, staff, and self, in compliance with department and VA radiion safety procedures to maintain occupional exposures "as low as reasonably achievable" (ALARA).
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Subject to Change based on Agency Needs.

Qualificions
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualificion standard the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupion.
Basic Requirements :
United Stes Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of educion in medicine or osteophic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a Ste, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United Stes, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certificion. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty stus.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accredition Council for Gradue Medical Educion (ACGME), b) OR[(2) Those approved by the American Osteophic Associion (AOA),OR(3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United Stes), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with approprie professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an approprie range of pient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rher, they are to have a "scope of practice" th allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs
English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct pient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
Preferred Experience: Must be a Board Certified or Board Eligible Radiion Oncologist.

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of educion in allophic medicine or osteophic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accredition was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Educion (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
Schools of osteophic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteophic College Accredition of the American Osteophic Associion for the year in which the degree was granted.
For foreign medical gradues not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educional Commission for Foreign Medical Gradues (ECFMG) th the applicant has met requirements for certificion, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certifice, if claimed by the applicant. [If the applicant does not claim an ECFMG certifice, facility officials must still confirm th the medical school meets (or met) ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year the candide gradued.]
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician gradue of a school of medicine not covered above if the candide is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrive position with no pient care responsibilities. The appointment made only in exceptional circumstances where the candide's credentials clearly demonstre high professional tainment or expertise in the specialty area.
