The Chief of Staff (COS) is actively involved in the VA Pittsburgh Medical Center leadership and management of resources, organizational performance improvement, patient and employee satisfaction, environment of care, and strategic planning. Through persuasive and facilitative skills, influences the quality, access to, and effectiveness of all medical programs through either direct line leadership or collaborate relations with Service Chiefs. The COS promotes standards of clinical competence and conduct for staff which are maintained through compliance with the credentialing and privileging processes, monitoring and evaluation of clinical practice, peer review, and other appropriate quality assurance activities. Leadership-Monitors and ensures staff compliance with agency regulations, medical staff by-laws, rules and regulations, VA facility policies, Joint Commission standards and other appropriate regulations and creates an environment of system oriented quality improvement.

Podiatrist Basic Requirements
Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~
Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~
Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, remote and onsite, paid and without compensation, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, researchers, volunteers and health professions trainees (HPTs) who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these facilities. HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.
