Reporting to the Regional Medical Director, Long-Term Care & Assisted Living, the Convalescent Care Physician is a full-service family practice physician who has a passion for caring for the elderly and has the following relationships:
- member of the local Division of Family Practice Long-Term Care Initiative (LTCI).
- collaborates with the local LTCI.
- collaborates with the Regional Medical Director, Long-Term Care & Assisted Living (LTCAL) and members of the Long-Term Care and Assisted Living Physician Leadership Team.
- collaborates with the local long-term care community leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities
A dedicated Most Responsible P hysician (MRP) or MRPs is contracted to cover the unit and manage all patients during their stay. The MRP is:
- Responsible for all admissions to, and discharges from the CVC unit.
- Provides an admission history and physical on all patients on the CVC unit.
- Provides a discharge summary, with a copy to the family physician, on all patients on the CVC unit.
- Visits the CVC unit not less than three times per week.
- Visits individual patients on the CVC unit not less than once per week.
- Ensures patients have Medical Orders for Scope of Treatment that are complete and up-to-date.
- Promotes meaningful reviews of medical conditions and medications, including recommendations to family physicians for changes in medications and other orders.
- Ensures adequate coverage during absences.
After-Hours Coverage : After - hours coverage (evenings and weekends) to be provided by the Long-Term Care Initiative/existing call groups at the Divisions of Family Practice.
Compensation: Compensation will be provided through a Clinical Service Contract, at the rate set out by the Ministry of Heal th ( APSA GPDSCA rate @ 100% (currently $333,438/FTE) and at an FTE definition of 1680 hours annually).
The rate will be pro-rated as a partial FTE based on the number of beds at each site :
- Menno Hospital = 0. 20 FTE (16 CVC beds)
- Laurel Place = 0.44 FTE (35 CVC beds)
- Morgan Place = 0. 25 FTE (20 CVC beds)
Qualifications:
- L icensed to practice medicine in the Province of British Columbia through C PSBC.
- M aintain professional liability insurance with the Canadian Medical Protective Association or a comparable plan.
