Position Summary

Central Maine Medical Center, a Prime Healthcare affiliated hospital, is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Gastroenterologist to join its established and expanding Digestive Health program in Lewiston, Maine.

This position offers the opportunity to practice comprehensive gastroenterology in a collaborative hospital-based environment, delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Collaboration & Quality

Collaborate with hospitalists, surgeons, oncology, radiology, and primary care teams

Participate in quality improvement, peer review, and patient safety initiatives

Maintain timely and accurate electronic medical record documentation

Adhere to medical staff bylaws, hospital policies, and regulatory standards

Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology care

Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including:

  • Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
  • Colonoscopy
  • Biopsy and polypectomy
  • Hemostasis and dilation
  • PEG placement
  • Diagnose and manage gastrointestinal conditions including:
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Liver disease and hepatitis
  • Pancreatic disorders
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Participate in a shared call schedule
Qualifications

MD or DO from an accredited medical school

Completion of accredited Internal Medicine residency

Completion of accredited Gastroenterology fellowship

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology

Eligible for or active Maine medical license

DEA registration

BLS and ACLS certification
