They should hold a medical degree and complete a residency in Internal Medicine or Pediatrics before specializing in Allergy and Immunology. Certifications from the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI) or a similar recognized body are also essential. Prior to becoming an Allergist, a professional may work as a General Practitioner, Pediatrician, or Internal Medicine Physician to gain the necessary clinical experience.
