A Cardiologist is a critical figure in the medical field. They primarily diagnose and treat diseases and abnormalities of the heart and cardiovascular system. Before becoming a Cardiologist, a professional must first obtain a bachelor's degree, then complete medical school earning them a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. Following this, they must complete a three-year residency in internal medicine and a three-year fellowship in cardiology. Certifications typically include being board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Prior job roles one might hold before becoming a cardiologist include medical student, internal medicine resident, or cardiology fellow. These positions provide the necessary training and experience for the demanding role of a cardiologist.
