Infectious Disease Physician Jobs in Oregon
An Infectious Disease Physician specializes in diagnosing and managing infections. They focus on diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Before becoming an Infectious Disease Physician, an individual could undertake roles such as a General Practitioner, Internal Medicine Resident, or Pediatrician. The role requires specialized knowledge and skills including strong analytical abilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team. They must be able to deal with uncertainty and make decisions based on a mix of evidence and clinical judgment. Certifications required include a medical degree (MD or DO) and board certification in Internal Medicine followed by a fellowship in Infectious Disease. Some physicians may also have additional certifications in tropical medicine or HIV care.
