Oncologist Jobs in Illinois

An Oncologist is a medical professional who specializes in diagnosing and treating various types of cancer. They play a critical role in the Physician industry, providing a range of services that include screening and prevention, diagnosing cancer, staging cancer, determining and administering appropriate treatment plans, and monitoring patient progress. Important skills and certifications for Oncologists include a medical degree, completion of a residency in Internal Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Oncology. They must also be board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Essential skills for this profession include strong communication skills, the ability to handle high-stress situations, critical thinking, and a compassionate demeanor. Before becoming Oncologists, individuals may have roles as Medical Students, Residents in Internal Medicine, or Fellows in Oncology.
