Oncologist Jobs in Illinois
An Oncologist is a medical professional who specializes in diagnosing and treating various types of cancer. They play a critical role in the Physician industry, providing a range of services that include screening and prevention, diagnosing cancer, staging cancer, determining and administering appropriate treatment plans, and monitoring patient progress. They may also conduct research on cancer, contribute to the development of new cancer treatment methods, and educate patients and their families on cancer, its treatments, and coping strategies. Oncologists also work closely with a team of healthcare professionals to provide holistic care to patients.
Important skills and certifications for Oncologists include a medical degree, completion of a residency in Internal Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Oncology. They must also be board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Essential skills for this profession include strong communication skills, the ability to handle high-stress situations, critical thinking, and a compassionate demeanor. Before becoming Oncologists, individuals may have roles as Medical Students, Residents in Internal Medicine, or Fellows in Oncology.
