Board certification in PM&R, issued by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, is highly recommended. Essential skills for a Physiatrist include excellent diagnostic abilities, effective communication, and a strong understanding of the physical and psychological challenges faced by individuals with disabilities or impairments. Prior to becoming a Physiatrist, a professional may have served roles such as a Medical Intern, Medical Resident, or a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Fellow.
