They should possess excellent diagnostic, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, along with strong communication abilities to interact with patients and their families. Board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease is often required. Prior roles that a person may hold before becoming a Pulmonologist include Internal Medicine Physician, Resident in Pulmonology, or a Fellow in Pulmonary Disease.
