Surgery - Cardiovascular Physician

This locum Cardiovascular Surgery opportunity is seeking coverage for ongoing 24-hour call responsibilities across multiple facilities in Lufkin, Texas. The assignment focuses on inpatient cardiovascular surgical care for emergency department and referred elective cases, with coverage needed due to the separation of a current employed surgeon. Providers will work within a collaborative hospital environment handling full-scope CV surgery cases.

  • June 26 (7:00 AM) July 6 (7:00 AM)
  • Ongoing availability beyond these dates when permanent physician is unavailable
• Duration:
  • Ongoing until further notice
• Shift Schedule:
  • 24-hour call coverage
  • 7:00 AM 7:00 AM shifts
• Average Callback Hours:
  • Weekday: 5.36 hours
  • Weekend: 4.7 hours

• Provide 24-hour cardiovascular surgery call coverage across the facilities
• Practice setting:
  • Primarily inpatient surgical coverage
  • ED and referred elective cardiovascular surgery cases
• Duties include:
  • Full-scope cardiovascular surgery
  • Both thoracic and cardiac procedures required
  • Ability to harvest veins independently preferred
• Estimated patient volume:
  • patients per day
• Program volume:
  • Approximately 100 heart surgeries annually
• Support resources:
  • Standard clinic and hospital support staff
  • PA support may be available depending on volume
• Reason for coverage:
  • Separation of current employed surgeon
• Credentialing:
  • Temp privileges available as quickly as possible
  • Additional credentialing may be required
  • Potential Medicare/Medicaid payer enrollment needed for assignments beyond 60 days

• Board Certified in Cardiovascular Surgery highly preferred, or truly Board Eligible
• CV or Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship required
• Active Texas license required or IMLC with active Letter of Qualification
• BLS and ACLS highly preferred
  • On-site training available if needed
• Clean malpractice history required
  • Providers with settled malpractice cases may be considered case-by-case
• Must maintain adequate case volume to support board certification and licensure
• Self-Query NPDB report dated within 30 days of presentation required
• Providers must have clean background/history to qualify for temporary privileges
